Manchester Art Gallery
Manchester, Greater ManchesterAbout Manchester Art Gallery
Manchester Art Gallery was a finalist in the 2010 Guardian Family Friendly Museum of the Year award. That's because they have lots on offer for families, including the new Clore Art Studio, free family friendly resources and facilities, plus a cafe that offers children's meals. Whether you have half an hour or the whole day, this is a great place to take the kids, and it's free to visit!
There are 3 floors and 21 rooms full of art and design to explore, and you don't have to like everything inside or be an expert to enjoy your visit. Discover works of art by great artists, from the sumptuous colours of the Pre Raphaelites, t the romantic art of Turner. There is also a spectacular craft and design collection that is housed in a restored Victorian theatre.
Explorer Tool Belts are available to help family groups with children aged 3 to 6 years, with plenty of tools to help you make the most of your visit such as spot cards, binoculars, magnifying glasses, and more. Story Bags are also available, and contain a story to read, activities to do, and a blanket to sit on. There are 4 to choose from and they are suitable for families with kids aged between 2 and 6 years. The top floor has a Handling Trail to try, where you can feel objects made from a variety of materials such as wood, glass, ceramic and metal, that have been made especially for touching.
The gallery has a diverse changing programme, plus a wide range of workshops, tours, and other activities throughout the year, most of which are free.
